Globe preps iPhone 4S launch; to offer 100 units on pre-order?

Second-ranked Globe Telecom is setting up its online bases to begin accepting pre-orders for Apple’s newest opus, the iPhone 4S. Various web pages that have cropped up in the telco’s official website suggests.
Technology blogger Abe Olandres reportedly received late Thursday an anonymous tip pointing to a page that appears to be theofficial pre-order page set up by Globe for the iPhone 4S.
Olandres reported that earlier, Globe CEO Ernest Cu had already announced that they are preparing the Philippine launch of the iPhone 4S “in the next couple of weeks.”
The blogger warned, however: “[I] double-checked it several times and it looks like it’s nowhere to be found on Globe’s homepage, which tells us this is still ‘unofficial’.”
Meanwhile, a cursory search on Globe’s domain for the term “iPhone 4S” has brought up the supposed landing page for pre-orders of Apple’s new smartphone, indicating that the telco will be offering only 100 units for pre-order.
The said page has a button for pre-ordering which, when clicked, leads to the pre-order form described by Olandres.
A Globe representative contacted by InterAksyon.com has not commented on the legitimacy of the Web pages, or the veracity of the information contained in them.
Globe has been the exclusive provider of iPhone smartphones in the Philippines for the past several years, but recent reports indicate that the company may have lost the exclusivity privilege given Apple’s general direction of opening up the iPhone to more telco providers worldwide.
In the US, the iPhone 4S launched on three major networks – AT&T, Verizon and Sprint –after being offered exclusively on AT&T since its inception.
According to Apple, the iPhone 4S will be available to most countries by the end of the year, which is its fastest launch timeline to date. The company, however, is notorious about keeping launch details of their products a secret, fueling waves of speculation around the world as to when it will release its newest creations into the wild.
The iPhone 4S, launched just a day before the passing of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in early October, features a much faster Apple A5 dual-core processor, a new mobile operating system, an 8-megapixel camera and the infamous voice-operated assistant named Siri.
