Article on Manila Archdiocese website erroneously links to porn site

MANILA PHILIPPINES - (UPDATE 5:30 PM) In defense of the press release posted on the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila (RCAM) website, which unintentionally contained an erroneous link directing to a pornographic website, the local office of the Archdiocese issued an apology on Monday.
Oops. The wrong Maria.
“It was a typo mistake,” said Peachy Yamsuan, head of the Archdiocesan Office of Communication(AOC).
This was in reaction to a press release posted on the RCAM Manila website that contained a link that incorrectly pointed to a website containing pornographic photos of a transexual man, the social media users and microbloggers discovered Monday.
In post by blogger Tonyo Cruz (@tonyocruz), the RCAM article on the recent installation of Most Rev. Luis Antonio Tagle, D.D. as the new Archbishop of Manila contained the misdirected link.
Based on the release, the livestreaming of the rite can be viewed on the websites http://www.tvmaria.com and http://www.quiapochurch.com.
The first link, however, would lead users to a pornographic website. A cursory Google search revealed that the correct website should have been http://www.tvmaria.net, dubbed the Filipino Catholic Channel.
The correct URL is www.tvmaria.net.
According to AOC, the Archdiocese accidentally announced the live streaming of the event at tvmaria.com, which appeared to be an image of a scantily-clad transverstite lying in a sofa inviting the public over 21 years old to enter the website, rather than that of the image of Virgin Mary at tvmaria.net.
The AOC said that after they sent the press release last Friday, they immediately corrected the link through a text blast saying it was actually tvmaria.net – the actual live streaming of newly installed Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle.
However, it was only by 3:00 PM, Monday, that the wrong hyperlink was corrected and re-directed to the proper website, apparently after the incident had gone viral.
Earlier in the day, the Archdiocese office was not immediately available for comment regarding the said posting.
In late Monday afternoon, Yamsuan said that they were not aware tvmaria.com is actually a pornography website. “I am sorry for the confusion it has caused. It was a typo mistake” she added in a text message.
In 2004, a pornographic blog site addressed http://cardinalsin.com/ was also created naming after the late Manila Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin.
