Remember the brand TDK? Sa mga 40-something diyan siguradong naaalala nyo itong brand na ‘to.
The TDK brand use to be a staple name when it comes to cassette tapes back in the 70s and 80s.Pagdating sa blank tape Ito ang brand na gamit ng karamihan; kasabayan ng Maxell at Memorex. And for sure this is the brand that ran in many music cassette players from the living room Hi-Fi mini-components, to those big stereo boom boxes, and of course, your very own portable music player such as the iconic Sony Walkman. Ahh, those were the days.
Nowadays, however, TDK is no longer riding on its glorious analog past. Sa madaling salita: natapos din ang maliligayang araw ng TDK, kung saan naging isa siya a pinakasikat na consumer brand noong kasikatan nila Cindy Lauper at Duran Duran.
The company has split its business – with Imation taking most of the consumer products, while the research and development, manufacturing and OEM business for industrial and electronic components remain with the original company in Japan. O di ba? Ngayon alam nyo na.
Under Imation, which also owns brands like Memorex and ExtremeMac, TDK now offers consumer products such as headphones and other accessories aimed at the digital music world. A perfect example is its flagship model, the TDK ST800. A premium model (read: expensive) that has nothing less to offer but good high-quality sound.

As we tested the ST800, we found the model to be well-constructed, adorned with classy fine leather wrappings with earcups that comfortably rest on your ears. Ganda ng porma – mukha syang mamahalin talaga, at mahal talaga sya. Ang ganda rin ng tunog.
The battery-powered controls are easily available from the no-tangle headphone cables. Regular consumers would love the sound quality, but we’re not sure if they’re going to love the local price at P6,500. Sabi sa inyo, mahal.
